BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Bond has been established at $1 million for Maxwell Anatra, who appeared Wednesday afternoon in the Crawford County Common Pleas Court.
The 24-year-old was indicted on eleven counts, including two counts of aggravated stabbing murder related to the tragic deaths of his parents, Matthew and Lisa Anatra, in Crestline on November 18th.

Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall and Assistant Prosecutor Dan Stanley confirmed that Anatra has no prior criminal record or known mental health issues.
The prosecution revealed that Anatra attempted to flee the country by purchasing a ticket to Ethiopia but was intercepted at the Canadian border. He was subsequently returned to the Crawford County Jail on November 26.
Anatra is currently represented by Mansfield Attorney James Mayer III, who entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
When asked if mental health will play a role in Anatra’s defense or if a mental competency evaluation will be sought, Mayer declined to comment.

Matt Crall expressed his sorrow over the situation and highlighted the toll it has taken on the community:
“It’s a tough week in the courthouse, a lot of sadness. (Where Lisa worked) but it is hard to see the positive sometimes. However, the community support the Anatra family has received has been massive; the candlelight vigil and the funeral were packed.” Crall stated, paying tribute to both victims.
As the investigation continues, the prosecution has not disclosed a possible motive for the murders.
A pretrial date is expected to be set soon, with retired Franklin County Judge Daniel T. Hogan presiding over the proceedings
