BUCYRUS—A Bucyrus Man was arraigned in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Monday on Charges of Reckless homicide with a gun speculation.

Anthony Morgan, 52, of Bucyrus, was arraigned by Judge Sean Leuthold.

Morgan is charged with the death of his wife, Jennifer Morgan, on May 18th.

According to Prosecutor Matt Crall, Jennifer Morgan was lying in her bed on May 18th when Anthony Morgan, who was playing with the scope on his gun, dropped the weapon on the floor. As he rose from the floor, he placed his hands on the bed, and the weapon discharged.

Crall told the court that he had presented the grand jury with various levels of homicide to review, but after deliberations, they agreed to the reckless homicide charge, a third-degree felony punishable with up to 36 months in prison.

Judge Leuthold noted that this charge came with an attached gun spec, meaning a mandatory prison sentence of at least three years. If convicted, Morgan could serve a maximum of six months in prison.

When asked to anoint bond recommendations, Prosecutor Crall recommended the bond remain at $150,000, which Morgan has posted.

Mansfield Attorney James Mayer III, who is retained by Morgan, asked the judge to leave the bond the same, noting his client is disabled and has a heart issue.

He also told the judge it was a great financial burden for the family to make the current bond.

Those pleas fell on deaf ears. Judge Leuthold ordered Morgan’s bond to be increased to $250,000. He was ordered to forfeit all weapons to the Bucyrus Police Department and to have no contact with the victim’s family.
