BUCYRUS—Dakota Commodore, aged 30 and a resident of Bucyrus, appeared before the Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday, facing charges of violating a protection order which resulted in a probation violation.
Furthermore, Commodore was arraigned on two additional charges of violating a protection order, both classified as fifth-degree felonies, carrying a potential sentence of up to 12 months in prison.
This legal ordeal began on July 17 when Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold sentenced Commodore to 60 days in jail for breaching a protection order. While incarcerated, he initiated contact with the victim on August 5th through a letter.
Upon his release from jail on August 10th, he arrived at the victim’s residence within 15 minutes, leading to his re-arrest. During his custody, probation officers examined his phone and uncovered videos of him and his girlfriend, Katlyn Burkett, engaging in sexual activities with two dogs. Commodore pleaded guilty and received a 90-day jail sentence on the associated misdemeanors. Burkett has pleaded not guilty.
Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Commodore and reinstated his previous legal counsel, Madison Garverick, to represent him. Leuthold scheduled a comprehensive hearing to address the probation violations.
Initially, Commodore’s bond for the original violation was set at $50,000. However, due to the seriousness of his recent infractions, Judge Leuthold expressed concerns about Commodore’s potential threat to public safety. Consequently, he increased the original bond by $75,000 and set a bond of $100,000 for the new violation, resulting in a total bond of $175,000.
