A suspect device ended with the Columbus Fire Bomb Squad being called to a West Rensselaer Street home Thursday evening.
Bucyrus police Captain Joseph Greathouse reported that around 2:30 Thursday afternoon, the Bucyrus Fire and Police departments, along with Bucyrus Zoning, issued an inspection warrant for safety hazards at 415 W. Rensselaer St. Greathouse said a suspect device was found during the inspection, forcing a call to the Columbus Bomb Squad.
“Not sure what it is at this time,” Greathouse said.
Bucyrus fire trucks, police cars and the Columbus Bomb Squad truck filled the street while city officials awaited the results of the findings. The house, which sat on a large lot at the corner of West Rensselaer and Clark Street, had blue paint peeling from its boards, a moss-covered front porch roof, and overgrown plants surrounding it.
Bucyrus Mayor Roger Moore said the city had received complaints on the property concerning maintenance and structural issues, which led Law Director Rob Ratliff to issue an inspection warrant through the International Property Maintenance Code.
Around 6:30, Moore reported that they received the nod from the Bomb Squad to continue the inspection. “(They) didn’t find anything that is not manufactured,” Moore said.
