BUCYRUS — While the investigation is ongoing into the disappearance of a Mount Gilead boy, the Mount Gilead Police Department has released more information about a body discovered on Tuesday afternoon at the Crawford County Landfill.

According to a press release from the Mount Gilead Division of Police, 14-year-old Skylar Bentley was last seen by family members at about 9 p.m. Sunday evening as he was going to bed for the night. His mother reported him missing at approximately 8 a.m. on Monday morning.

During the course of the investigation, officers were made aware of video footage that shows Skylar getting into a trash dumpster at the back of the Mount Gilead School property at around 5:15 a.m. Monday. The video also shows a trash truck emptying the dumpster a few hours later.

Officers contacted the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office Monday morning to request assistance in searching the landfill. Officers and deputies from Crawford County, Morrow County, the Galion Police Department, the Mount Gilead Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) began searching the landfill for Skylar with assistance from Rumpke, Inc., the owner of the landfill.

The search led to the discovery of a body late Monday afternoon. The Crawford County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene and the body was removed to be transported for an autopsy and identification.

According to information provided by family members of Skylar, the body is believed to be that of the boy.

The investigation continues and is being led by the Mount Gilead Police Department.

PRESS RELEASE
On Monday, April 23, 2018, the Mount Gilead Police Department received a report of a missing juvenile.

The juvenile, identified as Skylar Bentley, age 14 Was last seen by family members at approximately 9:00pm on Sunday evening as he was going to bed. On Monday morning at approximately 8:00am his mother reported him missing.

While conducting the investigation, officers were made aware of video footage showing Skylar on Mount Gilead school property at approximately 5:15am. The video showed Skylar getting into a trash dumpster at the back of the school. The video also showed a trash truck later emptying the dumpster.

Police Department, Mount Gilead Police Department, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation began searching the landfill with the assistance of the owners, Rumpke Inc.

While conducting the search, a body was found in the landfill. The Crawford County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene and the body was removed for autopsy and identification. The Mount Gilead Police Department is continuing the investigation.
