BUCYRUS — The Wynford Local Schools Board of Education recognized Greg and Verna Schifer as Partners in Education with the district.
“You pretty much know when you come in to a district who the movers and shakers are when you need something done,” Wynford Superintendent Fred Fox said. “Verna is involved with Young Life here, and also all of Crawford County. Greg, when we needed someone to help with this groundbreaking, he gave up probably four or five hours on a Sunday to come over and help us with that.
“After groundbreaking and during the beginning of construction, we had all that rain and we were having trouble drying out spaces so that they could put rock in to go ahead and build parking lots. So, Greg came over for several hours and just tried to take his equipment and till up to help dry out the land. So, time and time again when we need Verna and Greg, they’re there.”
Board members thanked the couple as well.
“We’re very excited to add Greg and Verna to our Partners in Education wall, and we want to thank you so much for all you do,” board president Steve Crall added.
The couple reciprocated the sentiments.
“I want to thank Mr. Fox and the board for this recognition,” Greg said. “Verna and I have been around for a long time in this district and we plan on being around for a long time. We kind of have a vested interest with grandchildren and family.”
“I would just like to say thank you,” Verna added. “Especially to the board because sometimes it is a thankless job and people don’t appreciate everything you do. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for this opportunity.”
Also during the meeting, Wynford High School principal Julie Miller addressed the board regarding senior projects and where they may be going with them.
For next school year, the school may be looking to change the senior project to make it career oriented, and it is up in the air as to whether it will count as a graduation requirement in the future.
Miller is going to ask the staff in the building what their thoughts are and what a clearer path for the senior project should be, and at the next meeting she will present the general consensus. The senior project will not be done away with, however.
Board members also were told that, much like other schools in the area, Wynford is looking for a full-time bus driver. Anyone interested may contact the school at 419-562-7828.
