NORTH ROBINSON — The top winners from both the Hannah Crawford Elementary and William Crawford Intermediate School’s spelling bees were recognized in front of the Colonel Crawford Local Schools Board of Education on Monday night.
Elementary winners were Grayden Bohach, third place; Colton Hopkins, second place; and Hadley Davis, first place.
Middle school winners were Zack Bailey, sixth place; Clara McCoy, fifth place; Dylan Hipsher, fourth place; Jonathan Poland, third place; Ian Gonzales, second place; and Sydney Stirm, first place.
The middle school students moved on to the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center Region 3 Spelling Bee in the Ontario High School Auditorium on Thursday night.
Colonel Crawford saw three of its students finish in the top five at the bee, with Ian Gonzales winning and taking home the traveling trophy. Sydney Stirm came in second place in a three-way tie.
Also at the meeting, the board approved a memorandum of understanding with the CCEA for an E-Sports advisor for the 2019-20 school year. E-Sports allow students to play appropriate video games in a competition against other schools.
Greg Flannigan currently is in charge of Colonel Crawford’s 12 students who participate in the E-Sports program. The students who participate meet every day after school in the media center.
There were several contract changes approved, including a one-year retire/rehire contract with Treasurer Vickey Stump, effective Aug. 1 to July 31, 2021.
Superintendent Todd Martin’s contract and intermediate school principal April Bond’s contracts were extended to supersede their current contracts approved April 29. Martin’s contract extends to July 31, 2025 and Bond’s is through July 31, 2023.
The June board meeting was moved to June 15 at 7 p.m. in the media center, and the next board meeting is March 23 at 7 p.m. in the media center.
