GALION — The Galion Board of Education spent a notable portion of its meeting Tuesday expressing its gratitude for the continuous support it receives from the community.
Board members also shared how proud they are of the school’s student athletes.
Superintendent Jim Grubbs was all smiles as he talked about the young athletes that Galion has, and how well they are doing.
The Galion Lady Tigers volleyball team walked away with back-to-back Mid-Ohio Athletic Cconference championships, as did the Lady Tigers tennis team and the Galion boys won the MOAC title for golf.
Grubbs said that he could not be any prouder of all of the student athletes and the work they do, no matter how good or bad their seasons may end.
In terms of community support, Grubbs also noted how appreciative he is of the community and how willing they are to give back to the school. During the last month, various donations totaling $3,450 have been received by the district, with $3,000 of that being from the Galion Baseball Parents Club for baseball field maintenance.
Recently, the Galion Primary/Intermediate Parent-Teacher Organization hosted the Tiger Dash as a fundraiser alternative to selling things like cheese or candles.
The Tiger Dash allowed the students to be taken to the stadium to see it and were encouraged to be more active as they took laps around the track in shirts donated by local businesses such as BellStores, Avita Health Systems, Donley Ford, Erlsten Syrup, Carter Electric and MyPro.
The board was pleased with how this event turned out and looks forward to continuing it in the future.
