BUCYRUS―The Crawford County Board of Health met March 20, 2019, and accepted the resignation of Dr. Amanda Kovolyan, Board President.
Kovolyan has served on the Board of Health since 2014 when she was appointed by the Crawford District Advisory Council. She has served as the Board of Health President since 2016. At her last Board of Health meeting, her fellow board members presented her with a plaque to thank her for years of dedication to public health and to wish her well on her future endeavors.
Dr. Stephen Novack, a rural resident of Polk Township, has been appointed to the Board of Health to fill the vacancy. Mr. Dean Sipe, a rural resident of Tod Township, has been re-appointed to serve a second 5-year term on the Board of Health.
During the Crawford County Board of Health meeting, several local food operations were recognized for their exceptional efforts in preparation, service and sale of safe food to the public during the 2018 licensing year (March 1, 2018, through February 28, 2019). This is the sixth year Crawford County Public Health has presented food safety awards to local food operations and there are four facilities that have received an award all six years:
* Buckeye Central Schools
* Little Athens Greek Restaurant
* Walmart
* Wynford Elementary
There were 116 food operations eligible for a food safety award during the 2018 licensing period, of which 32 won an award. There are two categories for food awards: a Superior Award and an Excellent Award. A Superior Award is presented to operations that did not have any violations at all during the licensing year. Seventeen operations received a 2018 Superior Award. An Excellent Award is presented to operations that did not have any critical violations and three or fewer non-critical violations during the licensing year. Fifteen operations received a 2018 Excellent Award. The staff sanitarians (health inspectors) at Crawford County Public Health conduct regular, unannounced inspections of food service operations within Crawford County, with the exception of those operating within the city limits of Galion, whose health department licenses and inspects its own operations.
“Crawford County Public Health holds food safety at the highest priority,” Director of Environmental of Health Steve Jozwiak explained to the Board of Health. “Recipients of our food safety awards are the best-of-the-best when it comes to demonstrating food safety.” The Board of Health congratulated all award winners and noted that their attention to food safety greatly aids in the reduction of foodborne illness for those that live in, as well as those that travel through, the Crawford County community.
