BUCYRUS — Early voting is in full swing at the Crawford County Board of Elections, located on the lower level of the Crawford County Courthouse in Bucyrus.
Here are the hours for this weekend and Monday. Polls open at your precincts at 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday also.
Extended Office Hours:
May 4th (Saturday) — 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
May 5th (Sunday) — 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
May 6th (Monday) — 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
May 7th (Election Day) – 6:30 a.m. to completion
According to Crawford County Board of Elections Director Ruth Leuthold, absentee ballots by mail must be requested by noon on Saturday, May 4, and returned by Election Day on Tuesday by 7:30 p.m. when the polls close.
“So far, 696 ballots have been received in early voting,” Leuthold said.
In the 2018 May election, only 20 percent of registered voters turned out and Leuthold does not predict many more for this election.
“There has been more interest in this election with the county issue on the ballot and especially the Republican Primary races in Bucyrus,” Leuthold said.
She predicts 24 percent of the county’s registered voters will cast their ballots by Tuesday.
The Republican Primary candidates running the election for Bucyrus mayor are incumbent Jeff Reser, Jenny Vermillion, Mike Allonas and Louis Katona III. For Bucyrus City Council President, Terry Spiegel and Kurt Fankhauser are vying for the position on the ballot in November.
Bucyrus residents must decide if they want to vote for or against the renewal of the city’s street levy and all voters in the county will decide if a levy to fund the Crawford County Justice Center will pass or fail.
The street levy is a .5 percent income tax levy for a period of six years while the jail levy will include the replacement of a .5 percent sales tax to fund the maintenance and operations of the Justice Center.
