BUCYRUS — At the conclusion of the Bucyrus Board of Education meeting Thursday, one board member informed the others he will not be seeking reelection.

Adam Stone, who is an attorney with his law office in Bucyrus, told those in attendance his plans to not seek reelection.

Stone said his intent comes from his plans involving his law career.

He said he is a member of a subcommittee, which includes a task force to help defend women, doctors and Planned Parenthood and other organizations that perform lawful abortions under the federal law.

He said he and others will work with those prosecuted under Ohio’s recently-passed “Heartbeat Bill,” which is a stricter legislation than the federal statute.

Stone said his obligations to the organization will cause him to travel to various parts of the country and would make it difficult to give what he saw as the proper time to commit to the district.

He said he enjoyed his time on the board and will continue to do his best as he finishes his term in 2019. Stone added he feels he adequately weighed where his skills would best be used before making the decision.

“It’s something I feel very strongly about,” Stone said. “I just want to make sure that I’m using my skillset in a way that I can look at my boys and when they say, ‘what were you doing during this time in history,’ I can say I was at least fighting for something I believed in.”

Meanwhile, Stone will continue to operate The Stone Law Firm and be a Bucyrus supporter.

“You better believe it,” he said.

Two other board members are up for reelection this year. Traci Wetterau and Dr. Paul Johnson both are in the final year of their terms. The deadline for candidate registration for the November General Election is Aug. 7.
