NEW WASHINGTON — The Ohio Department of Education was the topic of discussion at the most recent Buckeye Central Board of Education meeting.
Superintendent Mark Robinson told the board that Buckeye Central had the best grade card in the area for the second consecutive year.
The district received a “B” in achievement, which represents whether or not students’ performances on state tests met established thresholds and how they performed on tests overall. The district also received a “B’ in progress, which looks at the growth that all students are making based on their past performances.
In Graduation rate and in gap closing, the district received an “A.” Gap closing shows how well schools are meeting the performance expectations for the school’s most vulnerable students in English language arts, math, graduation and English language proficiency.
The school received a “C” in improving at-risk K-3 readers, and a “D” in being prepared for success. For preparing for success, student’s performances whether they are training in a technical field or preparing for work or college.
Robinson said that last year, the school’s grades stayed the same for the most part, in achievement the school previously had a “C” and in progress they previously had an “A.”
The district had an overall grade of a “B,” the same as Seneca East and Mohawk.
Robinson also informed the board that the progress of the new preschool addition and bus garage is “going well and as planned.”
The next board meeting is Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.
