NORTH ROBINSON — Though the Colonel Crawford Local Schools Board of Education’s goal is to have students back to face-to-face learning in the fall, board members had to pass a blended learning plan.

“There was some confusion on that when people saw that on TV, that only 20 percent of schools had already done that because we are the 20 percent who were told to do that, and we did it,” superintendent Todd Martin said. “If we are shut down again and schools shut down, the state is not going to be lenient this year, giving you a waiver if you didn’t get this approved.

“You have to have a declaration approved if you are going to have a backup plan to educate if they shut us down.”

Martin said the school is in compliance and the deadline to make the declaration was extended to July 30.

“There will probably be 100 percent of schools in Ohio with this declaration approved or otherwise you are going to have to come back in the summer to make up days,” Martin said. “We have not set our minds on blended learning, we are just putting all of the backup plans in play so when we are told what to do, we can do it.”

Also during Monday evening’s meeting, board members approved many staff contracts including the renewal of 2020-2021 fall sports coaches, and the addition of Katie Criswell as an elementary school teacher.

Martin said that should students be able to come back to school in August, he would like to have masks purchased for every student, should they be mandatory at that point. Should that happen, the school will provide one mask, but if the student loses it, they will be asked to purchase their own to wear at school if necessary.

The next board meeting is July 27 at 7pm.
