GALION — The construction of a new bus garage was the topic of discussion for the Galion City Schools Board of Education during a meeting Tuesday evening.
The board had to approve the resolution to combine parcels of land in order to receive a building permit from Richland County to finish building the district’s new bus garage.
Due to where the new bus garage and its lean-to is being built, it is within 30 feet of two other parcels, and unless the parcels were combined, the schools would not be able to continue with the building.
Superintendent Jim Grubbs said concrete is being laid, and he goes out one to two times per day to take pictures to keep track of progress made, especially over the last month with the nice weather.
In other court business, the board amended a resolution and accepted an offer on the school owned property at 200 W. Church Street.
What once was a trip to Mohican for the 6th graders has now turned into a 6th grade class camp trip to Heartland Outdoor School in Marengo, Ohio, and will take place from Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.
Other approved trips include the 8th grade class trip to Washington D.C. from May 19-20, a 7th grade field trip to Infield in Lexington on May 19, and other incentive-based trips throughout the school year for students who meet certain requirements.
Like many other area schools, Galion has also signed a contract with Community Counseling Services to provide licensed counselors, social workers, or a community psychiatric supportive treatment worker for students in need for the coming school year.
