A stack of envelopes awaited the Bucyrus City Board of Control Monday morning for the 2017 material bid opening.

Fourteen companies submitted bids for various items to allow the city to continue its projects for the upcoming year. Of those, only two local companies recorded bids.

Bucyrus Road Materials entered bids for various types of asphalt ranging from $60 to $90 per ton, and one bid for 405 cold patch at $95 per ton. The local company was the only one to enter bids for asphalt, though Pennsylvania-based Hei-Way, LLC submitted a bid of $110 per ton for 405 cold patch.

National Lime and Stone put in bids ranging from $10.35 to $12.55 for different types of limestone, sand, and gravel.

Two companies are competing to supply the city’s store of liquid aluminum sulfate. USALCO of Columbus entered a bid of $367.27 per ton while Chemtrade Logistics, a Canadian company, submitted a bid of $335 per ton.

In the area of water filtration, Columbus-based Bonded Chemical submitted a bid of $3,500 per ton for copper sulfate and $1,720 per ton for activated carbon. Calgon Carbon Corporation was the only other company to enter a bid for activated carbon at $1,780 per ton.
