As the statistics on bullying rise, Bucyrus Elementary School takes a stand on bullying for National Bully Prevention Month. The elementary students participate in activities to teach them how they can prevent bullying in their schools. Statistics show that about 77% of kids have been the victim of bullying in one way or another. Bucyrus Elementary is ready to lend a hand and take a stand against bullying.

“Our goal is to provide all students with another way to talk and treat each other,” Bucyrus Elementary School Family Advocate Marie Stuckman said. “In doing a month long activity for the students to get involved in, it opens up discussion in the classrooms and makes our students more aware of how they treat each other,”

The Boys Counsel and Girls Circle plan very exciting programs as a tool to teach the elementary students about bullying and prevention. Each grade level participates in a door-decorating contest on the theme “Stomp Out Bullying”. Elementary school principal Todd Roll reads a positive and encouraging quote each day. Banners posted all over the school read “Bully Free Starts with Me” that the students sign in the cafeteria. The students write positive notes to each other and display their notes in the cafeteria.

Bucyrus Elementary School hopes National Bully Prevention Month successfully teaches the students better ways to interact with each other and prevent bullying. For more information on the bullying prevention program, contact Marie Stuckman at mstuckman@bucyrusschools.org.
