Buckeye Central Treasurer Nancy Ackerman revealed at that district’s school board meeting Thursday that more money isn’t always more money. Ackerman reported that a higher December payment from the Buckeye Central Foundation doesn’t mean a raise in the monthly payments.
Ackerman reported that the December payment of the $4.02 million grant was higher than normal, however when the January payment came in it was lower than normal. After doing an investigation Ackerman noted that the December payment was an error, and that the payments from January through June will make up for the larger December payment.
“The foundation is going to remain same for the whole year,” Ackerman said. “What they did is they paid a little larger payment in December, and now the months of January through June will be leveled out in order to get the same amount that we were anticipating at the beginning of the year.”
Ackerman did note in her report that open enrollment into the school has risen which could lead to extra funding from the state.
Board President Missy McDougal opened the discussion about a possible change in policy on public participation at board meetings was discussed Thursday night. Currently to speak in front of the board during public participation a form must be filled out and turned into the Superintendent seven days in advance of the board meeting, and can be no longer than five minutes in length. The board will look into how other districts handle public participation before making a decision.
The board approved all items on the Consent Agenda Thursday including the hiring of Joe Wiles as boys track head coach, and Roger Durnwald as softball head coach for the 2013-2014 school year.
The next Buckeye Central Board of Education regular meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 13 in the Multi-Purpose Room.
