Buckeye Central introduced a new administrator after its Board of Education approved Matthew Millinger to be the district’s new K-6 principal.
Millinger was most recently employed in the Willard School District as assistant principal and was unanimously approved by the Buckeye Central board. Miller is an Oak Harbor native, graduated from Bowling Green State University and received his masters through The Ohio State University.
“My biggest focus for this year and what I am bringing to Buckeye is building relationships, focusing on the Third Grade Reading Guarantee and Title 1,” Millinger said. “But most of all a key is building relationships within the community and with the parents, and giving them the opportunity to see that I care about their kids.”
The board approved all other items on the certified staff agenda including the hiring of Christine Close as K-12 guidance counselor. Close takes the place of Jennifer Haynes, whose resignation was also approved at Thursday’s meeting.
In Treasurer Nancy Ackerman’s report she noted that the fiscal year had some positives such as the income tax revenue increase of 14 percent, $85,000 from Medicaid back pay from 2011,’12, and ’13, and $80,000 less than planned in open enrollment due to fewer kids enrolling in community schools.
A final settlement agreement was approved between W.A.T.C.H. TV and Buckeye Central, along with five other school districts. As part of the final settlement Buckeye Central along with the other school districts will authorize W.A.T.C.H. TV to use the excess capacity of the Educational Broadband Services stations of the board until October of 2016.
The next Buckeye Central Board of Education meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 in the Multipurpose Room.
