Middle school teachers outlined a project that will employ use of the common core classes at the Buckeye Central Board of Education meeting Thursday night.
Teachers Stephanie Kantzer, Sherri Bean, and Paige Caudill said that their sixth grade math, social studies, science, and language arts classes would be participating in the Ronald McDonald House Charities aluminum pull tab program.
Kantzer explained how the Buckeye Central teachers chose the charity.
“Holly Keller, our Social worker, researched and found this organization to match our goal of creating empathy with the students and found this organization to match our goal of creating empathy, as well as finding something accessible to all families,” Kantzler said.
Kantzer’s math class will be using stats to create data displays estimating funds raised for the project. Caudill’s science class will use the scientific method to hypothesize the best place to put tab collection buckets, analyze data received from the math class and using the data to attempt to get the best results for collection. Bean’s social studies class will be in charge of organizing school and community activities, and Angie Neumann’s language arts class will be participating in writing articles about the contest with updates throughout the contest period.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities uses all of the money raised from the pull tabs to feed the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
Walking your pet on Buckeye Central grounds will soon be prohibited as the Board of Education held their first reading of the policy prohibiting pets on the district’s property Thursday night.
During the meeting board member Bernie Kessler explained the reasoning.
“This isn’t what you would like to have, but it is in place in case someone was to get bit, and to help cut down on clean-up costs.”
The B.C. board approved all items on the agenda including an amendment to the agenda including approving a one-year license extension with W.A.T.C.H. T.V. effective Oct. 25.
Buckeye Central will be holding an “ask the candidates” night at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 for those running for school board seats in November’s election. Questions must be turned into the superintendent’s office prior to the event.
The next Buckeye Central Board of Education meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 14.
