Buckeye Central Schools and Crawford Park District will be hosting a community work day from 8 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 to continue development of the district’s Outdoor Learning Lab on campus and in the 10.5 acre woodlot.

BC 7th grader Alyvia RothInterested volunteers, including students and community members, are invited to bring hand tools like lopping shears, pruners, and shovels to clear brush, fill holes, remove deadfall and generally clean up the property’s nature park. Work gloves are also recommended. Additionally, we will be removing invasive species from the bioswale and stream at the district’s detention pond.

If you’re interested in participating, please contact BCMS science teacher Marianne Williamson at mwilliamson@bcbucks.org, or just show up with your work clothes and tools at the OLL pavilion located northeast of the student parking lot. Breakfast refreshments will be provided.

The BC Outdoor Learning Lab is a result of generous donations from GE Volunteers, GE Lighting’s Bucyrus Lamp Plant, Community Foundation for Crawford County, North Central Electric’s People Fund, Buckeye Central Endowment Fund, Cliff Alt Excavation Attica Lumber, Chatfield Hardware, and the BC Class of 2018. Many thanks to our numerous contributors and partners. Observation sites have been established within the woods for students and community members to enjoy a natural setting for school work, classes, and a quiet space to read, create art or meditate. Please join us as we continue this important project to bring nature and learners of all ages closer together.
