Buckeye Central had an FFA convention to remember last week and among its brightest stars was 2014 graduate Sam Robertson. Robertson was awarded the Ohio State Star FFA degree.

sam robertsonThe Ohio Star State Award represents the best of the best among thousands of Ohio FFA members. Robertson was awarded the 2015 Star in Agriculture Placement Award for his accomplishments in FFA activities, contest success, and in his supervised agriculture experience. Robertson served as the Chapter vice president, was a member of the state-winning Urban Soil Judging Team, as well as the Eastern State Regional Champion Farm Business Management Team.

Robertson’s supervised agriculture experiences started his freshman year when he worked for Cranberry Hills Golf Club and mowed lawns in town. He was then able to work farm jobs for Kaple Farms and Stahl Farms, both of New Washington, before he found the job that helped spring him to the pinnacle of the Ohio FFA.

During Robertson’s sophomore year he began working for Schroeder Farms of Shelby and this began a learning experience that would be invaluable to his success. Robertson has assisted with every aspect of the 10,000-plus acre corn and soybean operation. His area of specialization has included grid soil sampling and assisting with the technology on the farm.

Sam was also awarded 1st Place Diversified Crop Production Placement Proficiency Award and will now compete at the national level in this award area.

Robertson is currently studying mechanical engineering at the Ohio state University in Mansfield. Robertson is the son of the late Scott Robertson and Yvette Robertson.

In addition to Robertson’s award, 10 current members of the Buckeye Central FFA received their State FFA Degrees.

The State FFA Degree is the highest level of degree the Ohio FFA Association may bestow upon a member. In order to receive the State FFA Degree members must meet rigorous criteria including accurate record keeping, outstanding FFA and leadership activities, as well as academic success.

Current Seniors, Peter Keller and Austin Wurm received their degrees just weeks before graduation, while Juniors; Jaret Shook, Justin Showman, Aaron Niedermier, Megan McGinnis, Miranda Wurm, Ashlee Stander, Ashley Stockmaster and Amanda Stockmaster obtained their goals as well.

As a chapter, the BC FFA has had great successes in the past year and these ten individuals represent the many hours of hard work put in by the chapter membership.

These students will continue their hard work toward an American Degree which is awarded by the National FFA Association.
