There’s nothing like good food to raise money for a good cause. The Buckeye Central FFA’s annual pulled pork dinner is this Saturday evening at the school cafeteria and advisor Tyler Pope says they are hoping for another big turnout.
Tickets are currently being sold by FFA members, but Pope says no one will be turned away at the door. Meals are $8 each with both dine-in and carryout meals available.
The FFA and Ag programs at Buckeye Central involve approximately 80 students in grades 8 through 12. They will take an active part at Saturday’s fundraiser. Pope explains where the money raised will go.
“The money raised directly goes into our FFA Alumni account,” Pope said. “The alumni use that money to support the Ag programs and FFA in many different ways from purchasing equipment in the lab or the classroom, as well as providing leadership opportunities through FFA.”
Saturday’s meal is a big one and includes pulled pork sandwiches, au gratin potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, applesauce, cookies, homemade ice cream from Rader’s and drink. Hord’s Livestock also supported the dinner with a donation for the pork.
Meals will be served from 5 to 7 Saturday night. There is also a pie auction at 5:30 with proceeds from that helping with the FFA trip to the National Soil Judging Contest.
The Buckeye Central FFA soil judging teams are on quite a roll. They won the state competition last year and went to the nationals. This year they finished third at the state competition and are again returning to the national contest held in Oklahoma City.
Pope said the four students on the national soil judging team will each bake four pies for Saturday’s auction. Last year those pies raised $2,500 for the trip.
