On Wednesday, Oct. 28, 10 Buckeye Central FFA members departed out to Louisville, Kentucky where they attended the 88th annual National FFA Convention.
The 10 members plus advisor Mr. Travis Pope rode on a charter bus along with four other local FFA chapters, which made a total of 55 FFA members and advisors.
The first day of the trip was spent traveling to Louisville, with a couple of stops along the way in Cincinnati at Jungle Jim’s International Market and in Lexington, Kentucky at Lexington Horse Park.
The second day of the trip started off by attending the opening session at the convention center, along with attending a career show, a hypnotist show, and a trip to the Louisville Zoo.
The third day was spent attending the fourth general session at the convention center. After that, the chapter members took a tour of Churchill Downs, Louisville Slugger, and a trip to Muhammad Ali Museum.
“It was an awesome experience,” junior Kendra Swartz said. “I’m thankful to have been given this opportunity. It is something I will always remember.”
The fourth and final day of the trip was spent at the American Degree Ceremony Session. An American Degree is the highest degree an FFA member can achieve.
Six former BC FFA members received their American Degrees. These students put in a lot of hard work and dedication to receive this degree. The six former students that received their American Degrees were Amy Rietschlin, Jessica Cramer, Adam McGinnis, Sam Robertson, Matt Sheibley, and Morgan Wurm.
“I can’t describe in words the feeling you get knowing that you accomplished this goal,” Wurm said. “None of this would be possible without the help and support of Mr. Pope. He dedicates a lot of his time to his students and I am thankful for his support throughout this process.”
