INDIANAPOLIS — Eight Buckeye Central High School FFA members traveled to the 91st National FFA Convention last week.

The convention, which was Oct. 25-27 in Indianapolis, is a large annual event where FFA members from around the nation come together to celebrate their accomplishments.

Other events included a concert by country music star Garth Brooks and a speech by President Donald Trump.

Buckeye Central sent Adam Krebs, Joshua Gwirtz, Isaac Krebs, Chris Hiler, Cadence Vaughn, Kayla Shaffer, Izzy Niedermier, and Shanti Hunter to the convention.

Other experiences shared by the FFA members were a Riverwood sheep farm tour in Powell, Freshwater Fish Farm tour in Urbana and a hypnotist show at the convention center.

“Spending time with the freshman showed me the positive future the Ag program at Buckeye Central has,” said Gwirtz, a senior at Buckeye Central. “I am looking forward to continued growth of the Ag program after I graduate. The best part was the entertaining car rides sharing stories and singing along to classic country and rock music”.

Members of the Buckeye Central FFA were proud to watch former members Alex Fike, Jordan Stockmaster and Megan McCoy receive their American degree at a ceremony Oct. 28.

The American FFA Degree is the highest degree the National FFA Organization can bestow upon a member.

Fike, Stockmaster and McCoy exhibited excellence in the classroom, in FFA competitions and activities, as well as in their Supervised Agriculture Experience. They join an elite club of FFA members from across the country that were honored with this award.

A little more than 4,000 members were awarded the American Degree which is less than 1 percent of the National FFA membership which currently stands at approximately 670,000 members strong.

The FFA is the largest student organization in the world.
