BUCYRUS — A bar fight caught on surveillance video resulted in a Bucyrus man pleading guilty to felonious assault.

Joshua Rex, 32, of Bucyrus appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Monday with his attorney Patrick Murphy to change his plea. Rex had been out on bond since his arrest.

Judge Sean Leuthold told Rex he had looked at the video.

“There’s no question you were all drunk,” Leuthold said. “You just clocked those two guys. That was the slowest punch I’ve ever seen, but it was hard, and the victims didn’t even try to move.”

When asked if he had anything he wanted to say on behalf of his client, Murphy asked the court for a future report date for prison.

“The fight happened in a bar, my client has been out on bond with no issues and is not a flight risk,” Murphy said.

Leuthold agreed to allow Rex to report to the Crawford County Jail on March 11 by 7 p.m. to be transported to prison.

Rex will spend the next four years in prison, with a possibility of early judicial release. He is to have no contact with the victims in the case.

In other court proceedings, James Gamble, 25, of Galion was sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of harassment with a bodily substance and sentenced to 56 days in prison on misdemeanor assault charges.

Gamble admitted to being drunk and hitting a cab driver. When police responded, he spit in the officer’s face. He also was fined $2,500 for spitting on the police officer and $1,000 for hitting the taxi driver.

Richard Lane, 22, of Crestline was sentenced to four years in prison after he changed his plea in Crawford County Common Pleas Court.

Lane pleaded guilty to one second-degree felony charge for burglary, punishable by as many as nine years in prison and one count of theft punishable by as many as 18 months in prison.

Lane will receive credit for time served in jail. He also may be eligible for early judicial release.

Nathan Martin, 33, of Tiro will spend the next 36 months in prison after pleading guilty to one third-degree felony charge of vehicular assault. Martin received the maximum possible sentence.

Leuthold also suspended Martin’s driver’s license for one year. He will be ordered to make restitution to be determined later. Martin may be eligible for early judicial release.

Martin was ordered to report to the Crawford County Sherriff’s office for transport to prison on March 11 by 7 p.m.
