UPPER SANDUSKY – A downtown pastry shop is “sweetening” the offerings as it gears up for Easter and another season of fresh-baked goodies.

Glazed Over Donuts, 119 W. Johnson Street, is churning out batches of bunny cookies and Easter cupcakes and cakes this week. Cleverly decorated creations sure to please the palate of young and old alike – even the Easter Bunny himself.

Owner Jeff Steen said the bakery, famous for its old-fashioned glazed donuts, is adding a “new twist” to its offerings every week. “It changes every weekend, but we still have the standard glazed donuts, Long Johns, and cinnamon rolls,” Steen said.

Ocean rolls – unique treats made with croissant dough and sprinkled with cardamom vanilla sugar instead of cinnamon – recently made their debut, Steen said. “It’s huge out west and I’m trying to get it more rooted in North Central Ohio.”

Bakery cases in the 1,200-square-foot shop are also brimming with brownies, pecan rolls, light and fluffy crullers, and fried croissants, including the “Holy Grail,” a popular puff pastry injected with white chocolate and caramel filling, Steen said.

Glazed Over’s menu also features freshly brewed Crimson Cup Coffee, a Columbus-based company, in hot, cold, and frozen varieties, along with fruit smoothies and “the best dang chocolate milk you’ve ever had” from Hartzler Dairy in Wooster.

The bakery, which opened in June 2019, is at the site of the former Dough Si Dough, also Tasty Pastry at one time. Steen has refurbished the square tables inside, plus counter seating is available for customers who want to grab a donut and dine in.

Glazed Over is also busy supplying a variety of yeast and cake donuts to two gas stations in town and sells them at locations in Shelby and Kenton, Ohio. Steen said he’s also exploring sites in Bucyrus, including Pickwick Farms just north of town.

The bakery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 6:30 am. to 12 noon. It’s closed on Mondays.
