The Bucyrus City Health and Safety Committee approved a request by Baker’s Pizza Sports Shack for a new liquor license.

Owner Breck Baker explained to the committee that they are currently working on opening another location in Waldo. With all the available liquor licenses being used in that village, however, Baker said they were turning to Bucyrus for a little help.

Baker has been working with a liquor license attorney from Columbus to help obtain a license. According to the Ohio Department of Liquor Control, if there are no liquor licenses available in a potential precinct a business can obtain a new license for its current location and transfer its old license to the new location through an economic development transfer program.

The transfer would create an extra license in Waldo, leaving Bucyrus under quota with its liquor licenses. The state would be able to later issue Bucyrus an additional license should a business be interested in applying for one.

Baker is applying for a D5 liquor license.

Baker has already met and received approval from the Waldo Village Council to transfer the liquor license to the village. The property where the business will be located is undergoing construction as the building gets torn down and a new one put up.

The committee made a motion to approve the request for a new license. The motion passed with committee member Bill O’Rourke being the lone dissenter of the group. The matter will be brought before City Council at the next council meeting on Sept. 2.

The Finance Committee also met Thursday to discuss creating lines and appropriating funds. A motion was made and was passed to create a Contractual Services line item within the General Government Category within the fiscal year 2012 CHIP – CDBG Grant Fund Subparagraph and to appropriate $5,000.

This appropriation dealt with funds that needed to be reimbursed to the city for its administration costs after the city paid its fees to the Ohio Regional Development Corporation. The committee will seek legislation.
