Taking one last chance to have a blast before returning to class, the Bucyrus Area YMCA held their Back to School Bash Saturday.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. visitors to the Y were able to receive school supplies for children, as well as partake in games such as buried treasure, concentration, and ring toss. Bucyrus Area YMCA Director Deena Smith explained how they planned the Back to School Bash.
“We started out looking for family events for the summer, stuff that families could come and bring more people to the Y, and we started talking about school supplies, and maybe collecting some of those to pass out, and it went into school is coming back in August, so let’s do the Back to School Bash.”
“Our goal is to get more families to come out to the Y, and show the things that we are offering,” Smith added. “I have to give Stephanie (Faulkner) all the credit; she organized it and ran with the idea.”
Taking their kids and grandkids out to the Y, Ruth Brewer and Stephanie Duncan explained that they attend as many of the YMCA events as possible.
“We come here all the time, we came to the first one they had, it was really nice, and brought all the kids,” Brewer said. “Today we came because we want to keep the YMCA busy.”
“We are very active in the YMCA, every program that they have, we tend to come and bring the kids,” Duncan added. “We already have memberships, so I really appreciate all that they
do for the children.”
Also handing out school supplies, stickers, and removable tattoos during the Y’s Back to School Bash were Crawford County Sheriff D.A.R.E. instructor Deputy Chris Martin, members of the Bucyrus Fire Department, and members of LifeSupport EMS workers.
