The purpose of the Bucyrus Area Community Foundation is to serve as catalyst supporting the good work of nonprofit organizations and collaboration in response to the needs and interests of the residents of Crawford County. A portion of its work is carried out through its competitive grants program.

Each year, the BACF awards grants to 501(c)3 organizations to aid them in their efforts to improve the lives of the citizens of Crawford County through service programs as well as improvements to existing areas and fixtures in the community.

The Bucyrus Area Community Foundation is pleased to announce the 2013 Grant recipients. Below is a list of grant allocations for Bucyrus and Crawford County charities for the 2013 granting cycle thus far.

Competitive Grants:

  • Alpha Recovery 12-Step Program: partial funding for purchase of a computer, printer, and workbooks for program participants. $5,000
  • Bethel Pro Life Ministries DBA Voice of Hope Pregnancy Center: supplies for prenatal and parenting classes and advertising in the Crawford County area. $1,500
  • Broken Arrow, Inc.: partial funding for purchase of 2012 Dodge Caravan with Braun ADA manual conversion, once remaining funds raised. $13,000
  • BAY Soccer Club: funds for rebuilding main soccer field at the Lane Street location. $13,000
  • Bucyrus Area YMCA: subsidies for youth programs. $15,000
  • Buckeye Robotics: partial funding for the purchase of hardware, software, robotics parts, competition registration fees to start Hands-On Summer Camps, contingent on acquiring 501(c)3 status. $7,250
  • CCEEDP: purchase of sound equipment. $4,000
  • Crawford County Agricultural Society: funds for installation of ceiling/exhaust fans in show arena with any remaining funds to be used for purchase of trailers/wagons to store steel pens. $10,000
  • Friends of the Crawford Park District: publication of book, “The History and Geology of the Leesville, Ohio Stone Quarries.” $650
  • Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio: programming for Crawford County schools. $16,250
  • Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging Foundation: partial funding toward the completion of the renovation of their new headquarters in Mansfield. $15,000
  • Tender Loving Care Preschool: purchase of a refrigerator/freezer. $1,500
  • Tiro-Auburn Volunteer Fire Department: partial funding for purchase of an automatic stand-by electric generator to be used during designated Red Cross emergencies. $5,000
  • Wildlife Haven: summer intern scholarship. $5,000
  • Total Competitive Grants: $112,150

Multi-Year Grants:

  • Crawford County Educational and Economic Development Partnership—Campaign Support: second payment of a three-year $150,000 grant. $50,000
  • Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center for SPARC Operational Funding: third and final payment of a three-year $30,000 grant. $10,000
  • North Central State College Foundation—Develop Kehoe Center Campus in Shelby: second payment of a three-year $20,000 grant. $5,000
  • North Central State College Foundation for Necessities Fund for Crawford County students: fifth and final payment of a five-year $50,000 grant. $10,000
  • Village of Crestline: three-year $30,000 grant for construction of a facility for the Girls Softball League, contingent on documentation of remaining funds raised and proof that project will be completed. $10,000
