ONTARIO, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—Avita Health System’s new cancer center is setting a new standard for oncology care, becoming the first facility in Ohio and one of the first in the United States to invest in Varian RapidArc Dynamic technology. This intelligent, innovative hardware is designed to significantly reduce radiation doses to healthy organs at risk by up to 50%.

The new center, slated to open in November 2025 at 600 Richland Mall in Ontario, will integrate the RapidArc Dynamic system with the Varian TrueBeam® radiotherapy system, a top-of-the-line linear accelerator. In addition to increased precision, the technology has the capability to reduce planning and treatment times, accelerating plan optimization and dose calculation by up to 70%.

“We added RapidArc Dynamic to reduce long-term side effects and to deliver cancer treatment more quickly and effectively,” said Jerry Morasko, President and CEO of Avita Health System. “All tissues have an amount of radiation that they can withstand, and the goal is to protect the good tissue from unnecessary radiation. RapidArc Dynamic helps reduce unnecessary radiation exposure to healthy organs and tissues by as much as half. The investment in this technology is an example of Avita’s commitment to invest in the long-term health and safety of our patients. We’re excited to be the first in Ohio to do so.”

Precision in radiation therapy plays a crucial role in reducing long-term complications and improving post-treatment quality of life. The TrueBeam system delivers focused radiation beams with image-guided accuracy, using real-time imaging to verify the patient’s position and precisely target the tumor.

Avita is further enhancing its capabilities with the purchase of the IDENTIFY™ system, a surface-guided radiotherapy technology. This system uses cameras and computer vision for patient setup and motion monitoring with submillimeter accuracy. A key safety feature includes an automatic beam hold that pauses treatment if the patient moves out of the defined thresholds, ensuring correct treatment and minimizing errors.

“We are excited to bring radiation therapy to Avita,” Morasko added. “We have added both the RapidArc Dynamic and the IDENTIFY system to ensure that our radiation treatment is the highest quality. Cancer affects so many people in our communities, and we are not sparing any expense when it comes to providing lifesaving cancer treatment for our patients.”
