BUCYRUS—The Crawford County Sheriff’s Department is investigating what appears to be a gruesome crime involving a lost dog.
According to reports, a 17-year-old student from Bucyrus High School who attends Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby is the focus of the investigation.
Sources indicate that the juvenile hit a small terrier mix dog while driving to school. It is alleged that he went back and got the dog off the side of the road took it to his residence, where he, along with friends, decapitated the dog and placed its head on a guard rail. He filmed the entire incident and placed it on social media.
Outrage resulted in the juvenile suspect being pulled from class for his own protection against threats.
The Crawford County Sheriff’s office confirmed they are investigating the incident. Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall declined to comment until he reviews reports in the ongoing investigation. The Crawford County Humane Society told Crawford County Now they are aware of the incident. It is not known if the suspect hit the dog intentionally.
Depending on how this case is charged, the alleged perpetrator could be charged with a fifth-degree felony punishable with up to 12 months in prison.
Crawford County Now does not publish the names of juveniles unless they are charged as adults.
