The United Way of Crawford County hit the ground running in its effort to raise $300,000 this year for local organizations it supports. There were five fundraisers during the week and things got off to a good start Tuesday with more than $5,000 raised by United Bank.

Saturday’s auction at the Galion Moose Lodge was highlighted and aided by tickets to Ohio State and Browns football games, as well as items more tasty like cheese and chocolate baskets. The results of the auction were complete, but Saturday’s festivities also looked very promising according to director Amber Wertman.

“We just had a live auction, don’t know the total numbers yet, but I am sure we raised over a couple thousand dollars and a few hundred dollars from the 50/50,” Wertman said. “ So, we are having a good night, off to a great start for the kick off, we’re hoping that now we get into some of the businesses and the regular campaigns, we’re going to reach that $300,000 goal.”

In addition to United Bank and the Galion Moose Lodge, fundraisers were held at Jane’s Hunger Paynes where extra help had to be called in to handle the large crowd, Bob Evans and Pete’s Café.
