Individuals with antiquities and a curiosity of their worth paid a visit to the Bucyrus Public Library early Saturday afternoon to have auctioneer Lyle Gebhardt appraise their treasures from the past.

Items ranging from paintings, mugs, toys, necklaces and even an early 20th century vacuum cleaner were brought in. The real value of the day may have been an art print from the 1850s appraised between $500 and $600.

Pam Ballard spoke about a few of the items she had appraised.

“I brought in an old chalk painting, so to speak, and an Indian necklace with stone, what some people would call totems,” Ballard said. “I wasn’t really surprised by the appraisal, I know that the value of those kind of things have gone down over the years, and they were about what I thought they were.”

Pam McDaniel brought in antiques from the Lemert post office as well as some egg business tools. McDaniel spoke about her items.

“My grandfather had the post office in Lemert, which is a little town north of Oceola, and we have tried to clean out my parents’ home and found some of these antiques. The check writer, we wasn’t sure what it exactly was, and the value was about what we thought it would be,” McDaniel said. “We had from the store also would be an egg candler and brushes to clean the eggs from my dad’s egg business, and I also brought in some stamps that we had found, whole sheets of stamps, and those I was surprised that they were so low in value.”

The Antique Appraisal event at the Bucyrus Public Library was just one of the events at the library, as they also held “Take Your Child to the Library Day” which featured a meeting of the LEGO Club from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., as well as popcorn activities from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
