BUCYRUS — A Lexington man was arraigned on rape charges in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Monday.
Arthur A. Sorensen, Jr., 36, was arraigned via video while detained at the Crawford County Justice Center.
Sorensen is charged with three counts of rape, all first-degree felony charges with the alleged victim being 12 years old.
Each count carries a possible sentence of 10 years to life in prison. If force is proven the defendant could face 25 years to life without the possibility of parole.
In addition to the rape charges, Sorensen faces one count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony charge punishable with as many as 36 months in prison. Sorenson faces a final charge of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, a second-degree felony charge punishable with as many as 11 years in prison.
According to allegations, Sorensen was a scout leader who met the victim’s mother while her son participated in scouting. The couple began a relationship and Sorensen moved into the victim’s home.
According to prosecutor Matt Crall, the scouting organization terminated Sorensen before charges were filed.
Attorney Jerry Thompson was appointed to represent Sorenson. Judge Sean Leuthold set bond at $2 million.
