GALION — An administrator turned in his resignation at Galion City Schools Board of Education meeting Tuesday evening, but does not plan to immediately leave the district.
Galion City Schools Superintendent Jim Grubbs turned in his letter of resignation, which was accepted by the board.

Grubbs’ intent is to retire, effective Jan. 1, however, Grubbs said his intent is to remain with the district on a retire-rehire status while the district searches for a proper replacement.
“My hope is to stay on to help smooth the transition between me and my successor,” Grubbs said. “I feel the school district has come a long way and I don’t want to turn the job over to just anyone.
“I want my successor to have the same goals and values to keep the district moving forward.”
Grubbs said he looks to be less of a financial burden on the district after the retire-rehire process when his contract is adjusted accordingly.
During the board meeting, the opportunity was given for the public to speak on the proposed retire-rehire for Grubbs. No member of the general public requested to speak on the issue.
According to Tuesday’s board agenda, anticipated public action to reemploy Grubbs will occur at the board’s Dec. 18 meeting at 6:30 p.m.
The proposal would approve Grubbs as superintendent from Jan. 7, 2019 to May 31, 2020.
“Honestly, I don’t fully want to give the job to someone else, yet. It has to be the right person and I want to help give time to find the right person,” Grubbs said. “I just love this district.”
