It was a messy, fun time at Lowe-Volk Park Wednesday evening, as the Crawford Park District held the program Getting Dirty With Dad.
Hosted by Park Naturalist Josh Dyer, the event started with the kids going around the pound by the Nature Center at Lowe-Volk Park in search of items for their craft project. Once the items were collected the kids returned to the Nature Center to make a picture of their favorite outdoor activity that they do with their dad.
“Getting outside and playing outside with dad is just one thing I do with my daughter, and we enjoy having fun outside,” Dyer said. “So I thought why not make this a public event, and let kids come out with their fathers and show them, possibly if they aren’t familiar, how to have fun outside with their dads.”
Anna and Lizzy Erlsten attended the event with their dad Mark. Lizzy Erlsten described her picture, “I’m drawing me and daddy fishing”
Sister Anna said, “This is me and daddy trapping.”
Elliott Frayman who attended the event with father Troy made a picture of her and her dad walking on a nature path.
Logan Chochran, who was at the event with his dad Ric Cochran said, “I drew us fishing at the lake.”
After finishing the pictures Dyer took the kids and parents out to the wetlands area of Lowe-Volk Park where they searched through the silt of the wetlands finding tadpoles, clams, baby dragon flies, along with numerous other creatures.
Jaren Bloom who attended the event with his brother Ashton said his favorite part of the event was catching tadpoles.
