MANSFIELD, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—A Columbus woman was killed and a Marengo woman injured early Monday morning following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 71, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the Mansfield post responded to the scene at approximately 4:38 a.m. near milepost 166. Investigators determined that a 2020 white Jeep Cherokee was traveling southbound when the vehicle veered off the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and landed on Vanderbilt Road below.

The front-seat passenger, Charlene Lagerberg, 70, of Columbus, succumbed to her injuries at the scene and was pronounced deceased.

The driver, 81-year-old Leontine Vandyke of Marengo, sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Her current condition has not been released.

All roadways have been cleared and are currently open for travel. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
