BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—For more than a century, The Golf Club of Bucyrus has been part of the local landscape, offering not only a place to play but a space where the community comes together. Originally founded in 1925 as the Bucyrus Country Club, the course began as a private 9-hole facility before expanding to a full 18-hole course in the 1990s. Over time, it transitioned into a public course, evolving with the community while still holding onto its history.
Today, the course serves as both a local staple and a destination for golfers across Ohio and beyond. It was recently ranked the #11 public golf course in the state by Golf Channel/NBC Sports Golf Pass, highlighting the quality of play Bucyrus has to offer.
“We have country club course conditions at a public golf course price,” said Nate Smith, Director of Golf at The Golf Club of Bucyrus. “It’s an exceptional value, and something we take a lot of pride in.”

Located just minutes from Route 4 and about a half mile from Route 30, the 18-hole course offers a moderately challenging layout designed for all skill levels. With four sets of tees, golfers can choose what fits them best, whether they’re just getting started or have years of experience. Each hole offers something a little different, keeping the round interesting from start to finish.
One of the biggest points of pride is the condition of the course. Under the care of Golf Course Superintendent Jimmy Benton, the grounds are carefully maintained throughout the season, creating a consistent and enjoyable experience for players. At the same time, the club continues to modernize. GPS screens have recently been added to golf carts, giving players accurate yardage, weather updates, music access, and even the ability to order food while out on the course.
The experience doesn’t stop at the greens. Golf lessons, club repair, and a practice putting green are available, along with a newly added state-of-the-art golf simulator that can be used rain or shine. On-site, golfers can also enjoy OLD 30 BBQ, a full-service restaurant that adds to the overall experience and makes the location even more unique.
The course is fully open to the public, with several season pass options available for those who plan to play regularly. Throughout the year, The Golf Club of Bucyrus stays active with leagues, outings, and tournaments, including several events tied to the community’s Bratwurst Festival.
Beyond recreation, the course plays an important role in the Bucyrus community. It regularly hosts outings that support local schools, charities, and organizations, while also offering opportunities for youth through junior golf programs and partnerships with Bucyrus and Wynford High School golf teams.
“The golf course is a hub of activity for many different people in Bucyrus,” Smith said. “We’re able to positively impact the community while also bringing visitors into town who may not have been here otherwise.”
During the busy season, the course sees steady activity from early morning through the evening, showing just how popular it is with both locals and visitors. From retirees enjoying their free time to younger players learning the game, it continues to be a place for everyone.
Looking ahead, the focus remains on continuing to improve while maintaining the quality people have come to expect. With ongoing updates and a strong connection to the community, The Golf Club of Bucyrus remains a valued part of the city, offering more than just a round of golf, but a place to gather, relax, and enjoy.
