BUCYRUS — The 60th Annual Bucyrus Kiwanis Chicken Barbeque is set to take place this Wednesday, June 20th.  The barbecue will take place at the Crawford County Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Meals will be served in the Jr. Fair Building and will be available for dine-in or carry out.

When asking Kiwanian John Kennedy what community members could look forward to at this year’s barbecue, he replied simply that it is all about the tradition.

According to Kennedy, the ‘same old’ sauce recipe that has been used for many years will be flavoring the chicken again this year.

For many years, Kennedy has been right in the action of making the tradition happen as he served on the “pit committee.”

However, after 55 years, Kennedy said he needed to step away from the pit of working and has gotten the privilege to pass to torch to his grandson, Dane Kennedy.

“He’s taking the bull by the horns,” J. Kennedy proudly claimed.

Tickets for the dinner are $9 a piece and can be purchased from any Kiwanis member. J. Kennedy emphasized that tickets are selling quickly, so day-of purchases may not be available.

With that being said, he encouraged the community to find a Kiwanian as soon as possible to solidify a meal ticket.

All funds from the barbecue will going back into the community for various needs that are voted upon by the club at a later date.
