BUCYRUS—While the Bratwurst Festival is canceled this year due to COVID-19, the Brattie Run will go on in spite of it, just in a different way.
George Guins, who founded the annual event 48 years ago, changed the run from five miles to a 5K last year and this year, it will be done virtually to keep participates and organizers safe from Coronavirus.
“There are other races being done this way so we decided to offer the Brattie Run in this format rather than skipping a year,” said Guins, an avid runner himself and cross country coach of decades.
He said while there will be no awards this year, everyone who pays the $15 entry fee will receive a T-Shirt and medal if they get their application in by Aug. 7.
“The run was scheduled to be held on Aug. 15 officially but participants can complete it at any time between now and then. Walking, running, or biking is acceptable, basically, any way people want to do the 5K is acceptable and we are not asking for proof that participants actually did it. We are working on an honor system this year,” said Guins. “Participants just need to complete their 5K by Aug. 15.”
Applications are available at both the Bucyrus and Galion YMCAs or people can contact Guins to request an application by calling him at 419-512-5286 or by email.
