A man who spent more than 30 years serving the City of Galion in one capacity or another has died at the age of 79.

John Swain died Thursday at Signature HealthCARE in Galion. Swain was a 1955 Galion High School graduate and began his career with the Galion Police Department in 1960.

Swain became Chief of Police in Galion in 1971 and held that post until he retired from the department in 1989. Swain came out of retirement in 2013 when he was appointed as the city’s Safety-Service Director. He retired from that position Aug. 1 of this year.

Swain is survived by his wife, Jo, and their two sons.

Calling hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Richardson-Davis in Galion and services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in Galion. His complete obituary can be found on this site’s Obituaries page.
