Press release
On the heels of launching their annual school-wide “Socktober” fundraiser, the fifth grade class at the Galion Intermediate School is getting set to begin a yearlong campaign to help the Humane Society serving Crawford County.
The campaign, which begins Friday, Oct. 21, involves students at the Intermediate School dressing down on select days for just 25 cents. Students can wear jeans to school for the day on Oct. 21.
“After brainstorming many ideas, the fifth grade students came up with this project to help the Humane Society,” said Paula Prince, fifth grade teacher. “The students are very passionate about this project.”
The fundraising campaign will run through the remainder of the 2016-2017 school year. Dates and clothing options include: Nov. 4 (Choice of shirt); Nov. 18 (Jeans); Dec. 2 (Choice of shirt); Dec. 16 (Jeans); Jan. 6 (Choice of shirt); Jan. 20 (Jeans); Feb. 3 (Choice of shirt); Feb. 17 (Jeans); March 3 (Choice of shirt); March 17 (Jeans); April 7 (Choice of shirt); April 21 (Jeans); May 5 (Choice of shirt).
“I am so proud of all of our students for finding new ways to give back to the Galion and Crawford County community,” said Jim Grubbs, Galion Superintendent. “I’m excited that our teachers and staff are cultivating a learning environment that includes community service, and our fifth grade is leading the charge.”
Mrs. Charlene Parkinson, the district’s treasurer, will assist students in totaling the funds raised each month and helping them to prepare the funds for deposit in the bank. The students will present a check to the Humane Society serving Crawford County at the end of the school year.
