Bucyrus Mayor Jeff Reser proved he’s more than willing to listen to suggestions from outside City Hall. He’s even willing to act on them.
Reser has followed through on a suggestion for a prayer breakfast for the community and will host one at 8 a.m., May 7, at the Holy Trinity school. Reser explains what he sees as the benefits for the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.
“The benefit of it is to pull the community together,” Reser said. “To come together that one day a year to pray for the city, the city’s leaders and look for God’s guidance.”
Maggie Maloy, victim’s advocate for the City of Bucyrus, will be the morning’s speaker. Proceeds from the breakfast will benefit BORN, Bucyrus Ohio Restoration Network. Tickets are $12 each and may be purchased from the mayor, at Holy Trinity, BORN or Lee’s Shoes. BORN offices may be accessed through the rear door of Crawford: 20/20 Vision building located at the corner of West Mansfield Street and South Walnut Street.
Reser said a Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast certainly isn’t an original idea, but he said he’s been led to believe it will be the first in Bucyrus. Reser said Bucyrus, like many communities throughout the country, are in a state of change and that change, while not unique, can be a bit unsettling.
“The challenge that we face here in Bucyrus can seem to be overwhelming,” Reser said. “But we want to let people know, and to come together to support each other, but let each other know there is a higher power and nothing is done without the approval of that higher power. We just want to petition God to bless our city, bless our leaders, bless our residents, to help us be the best city we can be.”
May 7 is the National Day of Prayer. Other related events that day in the city include the Bucyrus Ministerial Fellowship’s Breakfast from 7 to 8:30 a.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. on the steps of Bucyrus City Hall, again organized by the Bucyrus Ministerial Fellowship.
