BUCYRUS—A Bucyrus man appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Monday to answer allegations he violated the terms and conditions of his community control.
Ronnie Olmstead, 39, of Bucyrus, was initially placed on community control after his judicial release from prison.
According to probation officer Chris Heydinger, Olmstead was associated with defendants arrested in a recent drug bust on Walnut St., in Bucyrus. It is alleged that Olmstead conspired with the two people arrested in the bust, Paige Hickman and Cory Mussleman. Olmstead also refused a drug test.
Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold entered a not guilty plea on Olmstead’s behalf and appointed attorney Jerry Thompson to represent him.
Regarding bond, Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Hoovler explained to the court the seriousness of the underlying first and third-degree felonies that led to a prison sentence and eventually a judicial release. Hoovler told the court the recent bust netted enough prescription medications to result in multiple additional felonies.
Defense attorney Emily Beckley, appointed to argue bond for Olmstead, told the court her client suffered from mental illness. She asked for a personal recognizance bond or something significantly less so Olmstead could get a mental evaluation.
Judge Leuthold set bond at $100,000.00 due to the serious nature of the allegations.
Noah Thornton, 33, of Bucyrus, pleaded guilty to one count of escape, a felony of the fifth degree punishable with up to 12 months in prison after he was deemed competent to stand trial. In an agreed plea negotiation, Judge Leuthold sentenced Thornton to ten months in prison. Judge Leuthold said he would not oppose transitional control if the prison requested it.
Derek Riels, 34, of Bucyrus, pleaded guilty to two counts of intimidation, each third-degree felonies and each punishable with up to 36 months in prison.
In a negotiated plea agreement, Judge Leuthold sentenced Riels to 36 months in prison on each count to run concurrently for a total of 36 months in prison. He will receive 49 days of jail time credit.
Robert Simmons, 20, of Upper Sandusky, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a felony of the third degree punishable with up to 36 months in prison.
In an agreed plea negotiation, Judge Leuthold sentenced Simmons to 36 months in prison. He will receive 36 days of jail time credit. Simmons will also forfeit $66.48 in currency.
