CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW) — A local organization, 100 Women Who Care (100WWC), is making a significant impact in Crawford County by ensuring that 100% of their donations stay within the community. The group’s mission is to bolster the success of local nonprofits, with a goal of funding four organizations each year to foster growth and community service.

100WWC was founded in November 2006 by Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan. Dunigan’s innovative approach to fundraising quickly and efficiently for local charities began with a group of 100 women each writing a check for $100 at their first one-hour meeting. This initial effort raised $10,000 to purchase 300 new baby cribs for a local organization supporting low-income mothers. Today, there are over 900 chapters across America that have collectively raised tens of millions of dollars for locally based nonprofit organizations.

The process is simple yet effective. The group meets quarterly, during which three nonprofits are selected by the members for consideration. Each nonprofit has five minutes to present their cause and explain how the funds would be used. Following the presentations, the group votes via paper ballots, and each member writes a check directly to the winning organization. Only local nonprofits are eligible for consideration, ensuring that all contributions remain in Crawford County.

Members can choose to be individual givers at $100, or form a team of two or four, contributing $50 or $25 each, respectively. Members are asked to commit to at least a year, guaranteeing a steady amount each quarter that will only continue to grow. If a member cannot attend a meeting, they are asked to send their check with a member who will be present.

The 2024 gathering dates are scheduled for the second Monday from 6-7 PM on February 12, May 13, August 12, and November 11. The gatherings are held at the Bucyrus Nazarene Church at 2165 St Rt 4, Bucyrus, Ohio 44820. The organization’s message is clear: the sooner they reach or exceed 100 members, the sooner they can make a profound impact on their community.
