SYCAMORE — Mohawk Local Schools initiated a precautionary lockdown Monday morning.

The announcement was made through the district’s Facebook page at approximately 11:18 a.m.

According to Interim Superintendent Mark Vehre, the school is only under a level one lockdown which means business as usual,

“Kids still move around the building as usual but there is no recess or gym classes outside the building,” said Vehre.

He said the school was notified by a parent that a juvenile is “in flight’ meaning no one knows the juvenile’s location at this time.

“We were given some information that a student is in flight but has not made any threats against the school or anyone at the school but we knew he could be in the area,” said Vehre. “It’s just precautionary, there’s no immediate threat. It’s better to exercise caution but there is no danger to anyone here.”

Vehre said law enforcement is searching for the teen.
