It appears as though 200 more of us were working in February than in January. After taking a big jump in January, the unemployment rate in Crawford County took a significant drop last month.

According to the latest unadjusted figures released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, Crawford County’s unemployment rate improved 0.6 of a percent to 8.0. Perhaps the more encouraging comparison is to one year ago when the rate in February of 2013 was nearly double digits at 9.7.

While the labor force figures remained steady at 19,500, employment rose by 200 to 17,800 and the number considered unemployed in the county dropped by 100 to 1,600.

The unadjusted rates for both Ohio and the nation are at 7.0 percent for February. All of the counties that share a border with Crawford County in North Central Ohio also showed lower unemployment rates in February after going up in January. Wyandot County remains the lowest at 6.7 percent while Huron County is the highest at 11.6.
