GALION — The Northmor Board of Education announced it had been given an award during its February meeting.
It was announced the board was awarded the Ohio Auditor of State Award, which meant the board met various criteria like filing timely financial reports with the Ohio State Auditor’s Office, the audit had no errors, the entity has no other financial concerns and other similar qualifications.
During the meeting, the board tabled an item on the agenda which would have allowed them to pay an invoice from Candlewood Lake Association, Inc. for sewage service to the school.
The problem the board discovered was that somewhere between the school, lift station and Candlewood, there was an excess of water somewhere.
Northmor officials originally had thought they found a solution to the problem, until a few months ago when water numbers were reading too high again. The school had companies come in and work on manholes, which they thought was the problem, only to discover it was not.
They have hired a contractor to come in and run a scope through the pipes to see if the problem is on their end. Until they figure out if the problem is on their end or Candlewood’s, the board decided not to pay the bill.
Northmor has also been having problems with “phantom fees.”
The district’s NCOCC system will randomly report certain students, some who have already graduated, never paid fees from the 2010-11 school year, which in turns means that current students can’t get their grade cards due to the unpaid fees.
At this time, it is not known if it was a system glitch, or human error on their end or NCOCC’s. The board has tabled this discussion for a later meeting to figure out the best way to deal with this problem and hopefully find more information into what happened.
The next board meeting is March 19 at 6 p.m.
