CRESTLINE — Tax season is in full swing and residents in and around Crestline have a new option to fulfill their needs.
In the beginning of January, Jim Mahoney and Sherry Winch opened Accuarate Tax and Business Services LLC at 270 Heiser Court in Crestline.
Accurate Tax and Business provides multiple services tax and bookkeeping services such as payroll, financial statements and direct deposits.

Winch said they will accept clients of both large- and small-scale company models.
Winch was born and raised in Crestline and gained her experience by doing bookkeeping for Fowler Products in Crestline before starting her own business.
Jim said he saw a further need for those services in the area.
“I saw bookkeeping as the largest option for potential growth for my business, but I couldn’t find anyone to do it,” said Mahoney, who has lived in the area since 1958 and also owns and operates Tax Matters Representation Inc. at 228 E. Walnut St. in Galion. “I also didn’t see anyone in the Crestline area that did much tax work.”
Once the two got in contact, they said the partnership just made sense.
“I benefit from his tax expertise,” Winch said.
“And I from her bookkeeping skills,” Mahoney added. “It really is a match made in heaven.

Amanda Delehoy, who worked with Winch at her self-operated bookkeeping service, also assists in that department of the business.
While Winch handles the bookkeeping, Mahoney handles taxes in many forms.
“I do a lot of tax representation for people with problems,” he said. “I do a lot of tax problem solving.”
Mahoney added, however, much of his work due to the time of year is doing a lot of traditional tax filing preparation.
He said the safest way to file is still with an in-person professional.
“The IRS is getting picky for things like if a person is head-of-household, child credit and earned income credit. Things I call refundable credits,” he said. “Those are probably the most cheated on or errored on area of a tax return.”
Mahoney said doing a return form with a professional, instead of a free online service, takes away the probability of making such an error.
“A professional also may find areas that someone may qualify for more returned money, something the online services probably won’t do,” Mahoney said.
