David L. Eichhorn, 75, of rural Bucyrus passed away with his daughter-in-law by his side, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Marion General Hospital.

He was born March 16, 1943 in Galion and was the son of Lavern R. and Nelda L. (Laughbaum) Eichhorn. David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Connie Roberta (Cluff) Eichhorn, whom he married on October 14, 1962.

He was a graduate of Whetstone High School. David was a master carpenter, working for Cass Construction before starting his own Eichhorn Sawmill & Lumber Company. He built from scratch a 33 foot wood and fiberglass boat, restored many other boats and a wide range of specialty projects.

David was a life member of the First United Church of Christ in Galion. He was also a life-long member, navigator, commander and cooperative charting chairman of the Mansfield Power Squadron. He served his community on the Whetstone Township Volunteer Fire Department, obtaining the rank of Captain.

David loved boating, exploring the Great Lakes and scuba diving.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Darin D. (Tracy E.) Eichhorn of Bucyrus; daughter Cinnamon C. Chivers of Akron; six grandchildren Ahlora (Matthew) Spring, Ahlissa Eichhorn, Benjamin (Penny) Harris, Cassia, Brennan and Lydia Chivers; four great-grandchildren Alastor Spring, Magnus Spring, Madilyn Harris and Hannah Harris; brother Keith (Judy) Eichhorn and sister Linda Zucker.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Lavern and Nelda Eichhorn, father-in-law and mother-in-law Robert T. and Grace E. Cluff.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A funeral service will be held
at First United Church of Christ, 248 Harding Way West Galion, Ohio at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15 with Rev. Darrin Harvey officiating.
